Sergeant MacKenzie

Sergeant MacKenzie, the Scottish dirge featured in the scene of We Were Soldiers as the men are heading off into battle, was written and performed by Joe Kilna MacKenzie of the Scottish percussion band Clann an Drumma. It was written as a tribute to MacKenzie's grandfather who was killed in World War I. Kilna and Randall Wallace became friends during the production of Braveheart in 1994.
